Bambi for sale

12 Mar 2012

Bambi has been very popular over the years with many pilots from Europe and the UK, especially with lower airtime pilots because of its gentle nature and high percentage of flyable days (300/365).

It is 280km from Johannesburg in the NE part of South Africa, in the beautiful and unspoilt Kwena Basin. Take-off is 225 metres, and it accommodates wind directions from N to SE. The prevailing wind is NE. Flying is good all year round, with particularly good conditions in winter and exceptional valley release conditions, almost every day. With five minutes’ recovery time, and take-off being a round, gentle, rock-free grass slope, it’s also ideal for training.

The Kruger National Park is about 90 minutes’ drive away. The nearest small town is 22km away, and the nearest reasonable sized town 50km away. The nearest city, Nelspruit, is 100km from Bambi.

The take-off and landing are on a 173-hectare farm, which has a stream, two dams, two boreholes (one on the mountain), and a house. The house is a converted barn which has electricity and water and which could easily be used for pilot accommodation. There is a road to take-off and a structure on top for shade.

The farm provides a small income from 40ha of mixed crop / grazing, with another 40-50ha lying fallow. The area is natural grassland and there is plenty of wildlife. Mountain reedbuck, duiker, fox, jackal, owls, rabbits, several other small mammals are all to be seen, with a large variety of bird life includingtwo pairs of fish eagles (which by the way are really awesome to thermal with!)

The property is the only asset of a company 100% owned by myself, formed 12 years ago expressly to purchase it. No other transactions, activities or contracts have ever been undertaken by the company. The company has no creditors, no bank account, nil tax returns every year and is effectively dormant. Thus the transfer duties, VAT and potential long transfer time can all be avoided by changing shareholding of the company itself, which is a relatively simple process. Alternatively South African VAT @14%, transfer duties @8% and higher legal fees would be applicable should a buyer want to purchase the farm from the company.

The purchase price is 300,000 pounds.
